Better Cars Japan is a Tokyo-based exporter that sells new and used Japanese cars to buyers abroad, with thousands of vehicles in stock to search by make, body type, features and destination country, and a great many photos to serve.
I joined its development team as a freelance UI/UX designer and full stack developer, working on the customer-facing platform, its CMS and management screens, and the .NET back end behind them.
The aim was a smooth, engaging journey from search to enquiry, on a system that stays fast as listings and traffic grow.
- Op 01
Designed intuitive UI/UX that improves navigation and the overall user journey.
- Op 02
Built responsive, cross-browser interfaces in AngularJS, including CMS and management screens.
- Op 03
Integrated APIs documented in Swagger and supported core functionality in .NET (C#).
- Op 04
Built an image-optimisation module with Brotli and gzip compression.
- Op 05
Added new database tables and APIs, and hardened token- and session-based authentication.
- Op 06
Protected assets from unauthenticated access.
- Op 07
Helped scale the vehicle listings, search and user interaction while keeping them fast.
- Lighter image delivery through Brotli and gzip compression.
- Assets that can no longer be reached without signing in.
- A responsive platform for browsing and searching imported cars.
